Gina Cloud’s work is as profound as it is enlightening. Even while being geared to women, it’s attractive to a man’s perspective as well which helps to join us all as a collective. I constantly find her words and messages useful in my daily life.

Your work has been very inspirational for me. From a young age (when I first started puberty), I chose to follow a false belief in sexuality where women dominanted submissive males. I re-enforced these beliefs through pornography and became addicted. It caused me to have great fear around women (something I am still recovering from) and show visible signs (acne) from an imbalance of energy. Your work has helped me to understand what was causing all this grief in my life. I am starting the path of recovery and finding who I am as a man.

It’s unfortunate that there are not a wider variety of voices criticiszing pornography. Jensen is really just stating the same old feminist critique which incomplete and really doesn’t answer any sociological questions about pornography. He focuses narrowly on violence and seems to conflate all erotic imagery with violent pornography. The real problem with pornography as I see it for men is the reasons there is a demand for so much of it. Historically it’s an industry that has thrived on repression. Why aren’t men getting what they need from natural sexual relationships? For me the violence is less disturbing than for Jensen. There never has been evidence linking pornography to violent crime and yet Jensen is beating that old speculation to death. The violence that sometimes appears in pornographic fantasy is again a matter of playing out deep feelings of powerlessness and uselessness. That’s my take on it. The real questions to be asking are not about pornography, but about why there may be such a demand for such fantasy images as there are. I don’t believe it’s all necessarily pathological, but I do believe that the combination of frustration between men and women and the ubiquity of porn (at least 25% of porn consumers are women, by the way) speaks to a real sexual disconnect. Porn is not responsible for this disconnect, but it is symptomatic.
